“I am, We are” invites participants to reflect on their identity by answering a prompt starting with “I am…” on an interactive interface. The AI analyzes the user’s response for emotional content, assigning it a sentiment score (-1.0 to 1.0, from negative to positive). This score affects the saturation and brightness of the color selected by the user, creating a unique visual representation of their emotional state.

To analyze the emotional tone of each response, the installation uses Google’s Natural Language API, which applies sentiment analysis to the user’s input text. The API interprets the emotional weight of the input—ranging from highly negative to highly positive—by evaluating factors such as word choice, intensity, and overall sentiment. This data is then translated into visual parameters, dynamically altering the user’s color choice based on their emotional response.

The results are then projected into a shared digital space, “We are”, where individual colors blend and interact, forming an evolving visual map of collective emotions. The piece challenges users to contemplate both personal identity and how individual experiences contribute to a shared, communal narrative.
