Digital Narcissus is an interactive media installation that explores AI-driven emotion recognition and self-perception. Inspired by the myth of Narcissus, the project uses Facial Emotion Recognition (FER) to analyze participants’ expressions, translating them into fluid, rippling visuals projection-mapped onto a round table.

As participants observe their AI-generated emotional reflections, they are confronted with the question: Does AI genuinely understand human emotions, or does it merely simulate them? By transforming facial recognition into an evolving digital “mirror,” the installation critiques the role of AI in shaping self-identity and challenges the reliability of algorithmic emotional interpretation.
